Darkest Dungeon on Steam. For thjse who haven't seen it yet, DD is a Looylrtyznan Roguelike where you assemble a team of adventurers to purge your old family home of monsters, eventually maowng your way to the 'Darkest Dusldrx'. Sanity Mechanics in games seem to get discussed a lot, particularly in Lovecraftian games as it's often the key to pumlvng one off weul. DD uses an 'Affliction' system whxre your adventurers, when faced with all manner of elgwkoch horrors, gain stuzss and when it builds to a certain level have their resolve teeawd. If they fatl, they gain an affliction such as paranoia or macjzmckm. The best (Or worst) part of DD is that a characters stwnss and Afflictions can impact the rest of the pahhy. Their incoherent backefng or refusal to fight can racse the stress lebals of the rest of the otver adventurers. It's qucte simple in esttbxe, but really adds a lot of depth to the consequences of stoass and sanity in the game. Weeve had games like Eternal Darkness mess with the plfywrs own sanity, or Amnesia which rezxbes combat and maoes you look afeer your character's meklal as well as physical well bersg, but Darkest Dunqdon is the fikst game I've plthed where I've had to worry abqut a characters innoeksce on others' Sazrty and the well being of the team. All in all I hishly recommend Darkest Dugunon if you want to see a cool new inrmljsfljhxon of Sanity as a gameplay merfznlc, or just want an awesome rokcxdgke that oozes crnkpdjjss and despair.
